This movie has ruined not only me, but seemingly everyone around me.

I had been complaining for weeks that the DVD Burner on my brother's computer wasn't working. I finally, on the spur of the moment, brought it to my dad's attention, and suddenly, things are worse than before. The entire computer is fucked up, and seemingly now the DVD burner is less important. Me and my big mouth. I feel like an ass.

But that's par for the course. Why should I have expected this to go smoothly? Not a damn part of making this so-called "movie" has been anything closely related to smooth. It's all one giant fuck up. Except before now, it was only my responsibility. Now, I've taken liberties with a computer that isn't mine, and Eric is not happy. Maybe he's not upset with me, but this is going to be eating away at him for days, maybe weeks, because that's how he works - he sits, mutters, and let's something fester. He's pissed. I'm pissed. I wish I'd said nothing, even though this was going to happen sooner or later.

So please DON'T ask what's going on with the movie for the time being. It's not happening at all and it's not going to happen for a while.

Reading week premiere my ass. If only.

(And hey - if the computer comes with a DVD-R, why wasn't the fucking DVD-R installed?! What the hell is that about?)

I am pleased to announce that as it is, the Incredible Kyle Sanderson has agreed to help with the editing of this video. This is a huuuge step toward finishing the movie, as you can imagine, as Kyle has much more access to his computer than I do, and let's face it, he's as good an editor as I've seen. I'm extremely happy with this arrangement, and I hope that not only will this help the movie get done, but get done better.

So it's officially more-or-less out of my hands. Haha, so whenever somebody says "how's the movie going?" I'll just say "I dunno, ask Kyle!" Naturally I will be checking in on him occasionally, but I have faith in him. There are a few scenes I need to do for myself but other than that Kyle's got it.

So that's the major update.

Everywhere I go, people keep asking, "Scott, how's the movie coming?"

And I just sigh and lament the fact that I haven't got a good answer for them.

True to form of this jumbled mess of a production, the film has remained in the same partially-edited state since roughly the weekend before the end of Summer.

I have, however, been trying to arrange a time for editing with Kyle. So far our schedules have not jived, but things look to be shaping up in the future.

In the meantime, I'll keep you posted. Believe me, I want to get this movie done as much as anybody wants to see it.

My official statement at this point is "before the end of the year," but that is way overestimated it. All I need is two or three good editing days at Kyle's for the thing to be 100% complete. Getting those is just a difficult matter.

Happily ever after?

Well, yesterday brought to a close the long and painful Principal Photography phase of this project. It's been a long road filled with turns and a few obstacles, butit appears to be over with.

I'd like to thank everybody:
Ryan: For always being there, even if you were supposed to be somewhere else. You even destroyed your place of work so you'd have more time (I know you're responsible for that.)
Doug: For making the material so much funnier.
Kyle: For letting me steal your computer.
Neabel: For putting up with the embarassing role you were given, and all the Yukon Bitches that went along with it, and knocking that role out of the park.
Alyssa & Anisah: For getting all your stuff done in one day, and adding so much more personality to your characters, making them better than the words.
Emma: For what I just said about them, but with the added bonus of being added to the cast a week earlier and learning the lines on set.
Lauren: There's this fantastic look in your eyes during the scene at Doug's apartment that really makes the scene.
Chris Brown: For relentless enthusiasm; and for acting more heroic than I expected you to.
And all the parents of the castmembers I've abused by making them stay out all hours for a reason they might not fully understand. I know I don't.

It's not done yet, though. Somewhere between school and work, I'm going to have to sneak into Kyle Sanderson's house and use his computer for this; but beyond that, this film is done shooting.

Thanks a lot eveyone, it's been a blast.

Here we go, folks, we're closing in on the last few shoots of the entire ordeal.

Tomorrow night I need to round up Chris, Kyle, Emma and Ryan at about 7 PM for the shooting. We'll be doing the meeting between Louie (Kyle) and Mikey (Chris), as well as Billy (Emma) and Mark (Ryan).

Then, I'd like to schedule a shoot for Thursday, between Doug and Lauren. I've been in touch with Lauren and she seems to be good for that day in the evening, but I'd like to get it done earlier, say, noonish? Get back to me.

Anyway, I'll be making the standard calls and preparations. Stay tuned and KOR

Nothing's gonna stand in our way...

All right folks our last week of shooting is upon us.

Casting news: earlier this week, I began firing out attempts to find a Billy, and somebody has finally signed on. The role of Billy is being filled by Emma Sutherland, and yes, I do plan on writing the dreadlocks into the script. I'll be calling her later to discuss the project.

The plan from here:

Monday: The shoot will be for 7:00; although with travel time needed to get Neabel into town, we may not get started until later. We've just got to shoot a couple of lines at ther terminus, and then at Kyle's basement set.

Wednesday: I think it was Wednesday, but it may be Thursday, so let me know if that could be a problem. Simply put, we all go out to the terminus: Kyle, Chris, Emma (so it looks,) Ryan and Myself. In addition to that, I'd like to shoot in the middle of the day with Emma and Kyle. Not everything scripted between them is going to be shot I don't think, but there will be something.

Props: In the way of props, we need:
A) A huge wad of cash
B) Business cards (preferably that read: Billy Vercotti, Assistant Manager, Louie's Italian Cuisine)
C) A gun. Maybe it doesn't need to look incredibly authentic, but it should at least resemble a real gun (the only fake guns I have are gold-coloured, so I'm hesitant.)

I also need to find Lauren Wing and see if she's willing to re-shoot her scene with Doug outside Ryan's place, since the sound is gone.

It has been a highly successful week and we are looking to continue that winning streak into this weekend and next week.

What we're looking at is to schedule a shoot with Alyssa for Saturday evening, for 7:30 tomorrow night, at the mother of Ryan's, 208 River Oaks East. Hope to see you there.

A bit of casting news, as Jon Tyrrell had a scheduling conflict with us we had to let him go, but thankfully we had a replacement in the wings. Chris Brown will be playing the role of Mikey Hoffs, and we'll be scheduling that shoot shortly.

In other casting business, as of last night I left it to Neabel to talk someone into being Billy. Yet to get a word on that, hope it works, knock wood and all. Get back to me Melissa.

Beyond that, I'll update later with next week's schedule.

Monday Aug 22: Please note that I have absolutely no idea how transportation is supposed to work for this. BUT, I'd like to get Melissa and Jon Tyrrell (as well as Kyle) over to Kyle Sanderson's house to shoot their last scene there.

Wednesday Aug 24: I'm hoping for this night to be the one at the terminus with Kyle, Jon, the actress playing Billy (whom I have yet to confirm 100%) and Ryan. And if at all possible, I'd like for the actress playing Billy to shoot a few scenes at Kyle's.

...dude, I think that covers it. Holy crap, this might work.

I've been a little frantic in my scheduling lately, and it recently occurred to me that that's no way to schedule shoots.

So here are my plans:

TOMORROW:

Ryan, I'd like to take you out there if possible and get the ghost scenes out of the way. I'd intended to make that late in the production but it's one more thing I won't have to worry about.

NEXT WEEK:

Tuesday I'd like to polish off the long-talked-about shoot with Melissa at the terminus.

BEYOND THAT:

At some point, I think the week after, Kyle has the week off so I'm going to positively abuse that. No social life for you, Kyle. In one night I reckon we can drag the crew out to the terminus and do all the scenes with Billy and Mikey, and Mark. On another night I'd like to take care of that one scene between Louie, Mikey and Carol. Plans for transportation are pending. Basically, everything with Kyle.

That only leaves the question of Alyssa. Alyssa, let me know if/when you're free.

We can still do this, people. I'm not discouraged yet.

Tomorrow Night's the night

The plan, as it stands, is for tomorrow night. Right now what we're looking at is Ryan, Doug and Neabel at the Terminus. In preparation, if Neabel could please e-mail Ryan her address, she could expect us between 7 and 7:30 tomorrow night (provided, of course, tomorrow is okay for her.)

I was also thinking of, after taking care of that, seeing if we could steal Alyssa from whatever she's doing, at about 9, and taking care of some of her scenes that would be at Ryan's place (the party and maybe, maybe if there's time, the big goodbye scene, which is also at "Mark's parents' house.")

The purpose of these marathons obviously is that we're running low on time so I need to get as much done as possible when I can.

Let me know if this is a problem for any of you (Ryan/Neabel/Doug/Alyssa)

I have absolutely NOTHING this week. I can't seem to get anybody together at all. All my hopes were for Tuesday, and now I find them dashed?? I don't understand what is going on and I wish I'd just get a concrete answer as to whether or not my actors will be in line for August 2nd. I'd really like to know.

If not, then we're really going to have to kick some ass next week. I still need everything with Carol, everything with Billy, everything with Beth, everything with Louie and Mikey... and no idea when or if it's going to get taken care of because the scheduling all seems to take place around one day.

I can't make any plans until I get a yes or no from Ryan on Tuesday. If it's no, I'd like for him to present an alternative for shooting the Carol scenes. If it's yes, then strap yourself in, because Tuesday's gonna be a fun ride.

I'm paralyzed right now in terms of scheduling. Just say the word and I can go from there. (Hint: I'd like it to be "yes.")

Until then, we've got zilch.

Hey y'awl.

So, today went... as planned, basically. I did a lot of editing, and all those random assortment of footage we've amassed now looks something like an actual product. It's still rough around the edges, but that we can work with.

ANNNNNYWAY, sorry for being a little tweaky these past few days. It's just very difficult, you know, trying to do this. As such I've been prone to fits of panicking and yelling and smashing things. It's not a pretty sight, but I'm calm now.

Tomorrow: it's still set to rain tomorrow so the shooting will be limited primarily to indoorsy things with Kyle and Frances. Frank, you'll be getting the call to be at Kyle's sometime in the mid-Afternoon, there's just some stuff I need to take care of first. Hope you know what you're going to wear.

I'd like to know who's available for Thursday night. I'd like to get out to the terminus as it's supposed to be a clear, temperate evening. But hey, if it can't happen, it can't.

[Ryan - sorry for not getting back to you. It actually looks like it might have been a nice night for shooting, but I got a little sidetracked and couldn't get on the computer.]

Anyway, we don't have any immediate plans other than tomorrow, and Tuesday Aug. 2nd for Neabel. Whenever anyone feels they would be free in the next week, let me know, and maybe we could work something out.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghh.

So much has gone wrong it makes my back hurt with stress and anger. It should not be this difficult, but it is.

Tomorrow is off. I'm still going to Kyle's to edit, but there will be no shooting. I'm not going to pin this on anyone, although it certainly has not been easy to try to wrangle everyone together; it's supposed to be thundershowers tomorrow and that would be bad news.

So fuck it.

But I'm really concerned about the amount of "oh by the way's" I keep getting. Yeah, I realize that everyone has a life and that everyone's not always available for shooting. Shit, I think I told most of you that when you were cast. But you've got to meet me halfway. I'm freaking out just a little and there's a very easy way to remedy this. We sit down and figure shit out.

Soooooooooo, Frances and Kyle, I've got for Wednesday. Right? What would be necessary to turn Tuesday's failed shoot into Wednesday's, is Ryan, Jon, and some sort of transportation. Can we make that happen? I'd like very much for that to happen.

OKEY DOKE kids.

As inferred by Melissa's comments, something horribly wrong happened to Wednesday's plans. Something which theoretically could have affected our plans for the future as well as what was, at the time, the present.

We all talked it out, however, and it doesn't look like things are going to be shaken up too badly. As it is, today's shoot went superbly and brough us near to the level of completeness we [falsely] enjoyed before Tuesday's mishap. i'm looking toward the future. Here's what next week (and beyond) looks like in my head...

Tuesday, July 26
[*]After taking Monday off, editing begins today at Kyle's place. I mean, it was supposed to begin a week earlier, but we all know how that turned out. Anyway, the real footage will be captured and edited to produce the optimum flow of scene. Coverage is fun.

[*]Ryan, Doug, Melissa, the Terminus, version 3.0b. Accommodations are being made to transport Neabel into our Oakville setting (discussion was had regarding moving the setting to Milton, but I am against that for my own reasons, nothing against the Township of Milton itself.)

Wednesday, July 27
For this day, I'm thinking that the scenes of Frances (Billy) and Kyle (Louie) will be shot; those that do not involve Ryan (Mark.) Frank, let me know if you're good for this time. Presently, The call is for 10:30 or 11 @ Kyle's. If we finish in good time, some editing might even get done.

No idea, but I'm thinking these would be good days to get either Anisah's or Alyssa's stuff taken care of.

Tuesday, August 2nd
Yes, I know I once swore I wouldn't spill over into August, but I also bought SmashMouth's second CD. We all make mistakes. (Haha, I kid, but seriously.) This being a Tuesday, it'd be an optimal day to schlep a massive party down to the Terminus [Ryan, Kyle, Frank, Jon] at someone's expense. Someone with access to a red van on Tuesday nights.

Yes, i'm a horrible person, let's move on.

That's what I've got planned for the time being. Everything is subject to change, until it's actually happening. There are still a number of scenes unaccounted for, so we'll deal with that once this juggernaut of scheduled shooting is outta the way.

Boy, I'll tell ya, this has not been a good week for filmmaking. Yesterday's (massively humungous) setback aside, they're calling for rain on Thursday, and if that's the case I'll call off Thursday's shoot, reschedule it for... friday, perhaps.

Tonight's shoot goes ahead as planned.

Wow, I really don't know how to say this, guys. first off I want to thank everybody who's worked on the movie so far. I hope you've been enjoying the experience, because... you're going to have to do it all over again.

Yes, because I am a horrible fuck-up (or more precisely, there are certain technical difficulties,) there is a severe lack of audio in the shots I've gotten since taking Kyle's camera. Therefore it is my sad, sad duty to report that everything since that first day of shooting at Ryan's house will have to be re-done for the sake of this movie not sucking.

So the way I see it, tomorrow will go ahead as planned, with Ryan, Doug and Neabel at the Kerr St. set to re-do their scene there and hopefully the one that was meant to be done. So if you're the type of person who is into learning lines, I'd suggest that.

Thursday, which had a shoot scheduled for doug & Ryan at Ryan's mom's will now be extended to obviously involve... every single scene that was shot there, with the obvious exception of Doug & Lauren. I'm personally okay with the idea of spending the whole day at that shoot, and Doug has agreed, I just need to get in touch with Ryan (and I know you check this thing pretty darn often.)

I'm not interested in playing catch-up for the next few weeks, I'm desperate to get this stuff back to where we were. We got so far and I am intent on getting back there.

Anyway, now that we've suffered the most horrific of all technical fuckups, it's been corrected and we should be fine for now. Keep your eyes open for future updates.

Okay, so the only plan I've got for next week is Wednesday, finishing up with Doug, Ryan and Neabel. Other than that I haven't got anything in mind, but I will begin editing at Kyle's next week... probably Tuesday.

Although I'm thinking at some point next week, we could get the Karen scenes done with Doug and Anisah. And Alyssa told me to tell her two weeks in advance for when I need her so... how does anybody (Alyssa, Doug, Ryan) feel about the week of 25-29 for those scenes?

Monday plans

Okay, so the plans for Monday are as follows:

We (myself, Ryan, Doug & Neabel) will all meet up at Ryan's (there are a few things I forgot to shoot last time, so i might take care of that there,) at about 7 pm, and then head out to the location (Which, if unoccupied, will be the corner of Kerr & Rebecca... a pretty docile neighbourhood for foot and automobile traffic. I hope.) We're gonna shoot as much as we can of Act 1, so we'll cover as much of pages 19-27 as possible. Obviously, there's a good chance we won't cover that much of it, but we'll get as much as possible.

During shooting yesterday, the need arose for some kind of poster. Well, using some trick photography and a lot of Jasp Paint Shop Pro, I have finally created something vaguely resembling a poster.

Update on yesterday's post

Provided I can get ahold of Kyle before then, there will indeed be a shoot at Ryan's, for Doug, Lauren and Ryan. We're going to shoot Perry & Elaine's last scene, but also the scene before that between Perry and Mark. So it'll be a big day.

We're also looking at Monday evening for Ryan & Neabel at the terminus (again, directions to come, although we'll probably use Ryan's as a home base before heading out, if that's okay.) I might schedule something in between for Ryan & Doug, but Ryan's work schedule seems to forbid it (the most likely candidate would be Saturday night, but since we can't get Ryan until after 8 we wouldn't have much time.)

So there we have what's set in stone and what's in store. Stay tuned and keep on rockin'

They came form the sky

Well, another day, another shoot. I just looked at the footage (and by "just" I naturally mean "a while back," and I just have delayed in writing this,) we shot today and it is phenomenal. I might have caused some audio glitches but I believe them to be fixable in post. Other than that, great stuff. I have to keep from swuealing with glee when watching. Which is strange because if you know me I'm not the "squealing with glee" type.

Upcoming shoots will be for Doug and Lauren at Ryan Wheeler's place on Thursday, if everything is clear. Early, around 10-ish. I just need to confirm this with him, he who has been in Ottawa since Friday. We're also probably going to be shooting an act 3 scene between Mark and Perry on the same day.

Also, I've got Neabel for Tuesday night, so that will tenatively be at the terminus (which nobody knows where it is but me, at the moment,) but stay tuned for times.

Well, our first shoot was a massive success. I just reviewed what we shot today and it looks terrific. I look forward to editing it together (Kyle -- we still good with that? Let me know.)

The Call

Lauren and Doug (specifically Lauren, since Doug can't read this. I'll call him later,) you guys officially have a call for 9:00 Monday morning, at the corner of Iroquois Shore and Trafalgar (across from the mall, the TD Bank.) If this is a problem, let me know asap. Other than that, review your lines for tomorrow (I'll have a script on-set, but it works so much better if you're familiar with what's going down.)

In case you were wondering, it's the scene where you and Doug first meet up, as well as the two lines in the coffee shop.

Scheduling blues & costume talk

Okay - If at all possible, I'd like word from a few people (Ryan, Frances, Lauren, Doug) on when they are available next week. That means if they're working, going off, whatever.

I'd really like Monday to be the first day of shooting.

I know Kyle works late during the week, so I'm probably scheduling a shoot for Saturday July 9 with him, Frances, Jon and (-probably-) Ryan.

As for Doug & Lauren... I have no idea, which is naturally the point of this post.

Here's what needs to get done, however, between the 4th and 9th:

ACT 1
-Minor scenes of Kyle & Frances
-Flashback scenes of Doug & Lauren
-Doug & Lauren @ the apartment.

ACT 2

-The entire scene between Kyle, Frances and Jon
-The scene between Frances and Ryan, same setting
(Probably the same night, Saturday if possible.)

ACT 3

-Doug & Lauren, outside Ryan's house (probably the one on River Oaks, if I recall the details of our conversation correctly.)

I think that about covers it.

Costuming
Okay, just a little bit of business here with costumes. Here's what we're looking at with that:

Ryan: T-Shirt & Jeans, very casual. Maybe the 1-up t-shirt you always wear, but it makes little difference. Need a few different costumes, though. At least one is pyjamas, so probably something old like a gym shirt.

Doug: Ditto. Mostly just wear whatever's convenient for that day. Maybe some band shirt or whatever.

Actually, just had a thought about the flashback scene in the basement setting (hm, need a basement somewhere,) between Doug, Ryan & Alyssa. For the sake of an in-joke, I'd suggest you all wear shirts from different Woss productions, or Spamalot. Just to give me something to point at and laugh when I have to re-watch the scene a billion times during editing.

Lauren: Something innocent and unassuming. Casual.

Anisah: Something confident, conservative and casual. In the script, when we first see your character she's lying in bed; might omit that. In the event that I don't, see the note about Ryan's pyjamas.

I'm not running a skin flick here, people!

Melissa: Well, maybe I am. Do I even need to spell this one out? She's a bloody streetwalker. Just keep it tasteful. There will probably be proud parents watching this, someday.

Kyle: Remember what you wore for Mayhew? Pretty much that, but more business-like. If you still had that leather jacket, that'd be great, but if not, no big deal. Your character is de-aged, though, so your hair can be natural. The piercing, strangely, will stay.

Frances: Hm. This is the one I always have the most trouble thinking about. Obviously, something business-like. Formal, feminine, etc. White shirt, skirt or pants, nice shoes. Might be the most troublesome. But then again how should I know what clothes you have.

Alyssa: Casual. You're in league with Doug & Ryan, meaning generally whatever you feel like wearing to the shoot.

Jon: I want this character to look like he's not used to dressing up. He's trying to look good for his meeting, but he really just looks like he's a kid wearing his dad's clothes.

Whatever that means.

I think that about covers it, except for me, and I'll wear whatever the hell I feel is appropriate.

Ryan, remind me, before the first scene (in the script) is shot, I'm going to mail you a letter, with an incredibly fake return address, so we can use it as a prop.

That about covers it for today.

More scheduling junk

So, another shoe has been thrown into the works, as another cast member has informed me that, through no fault of her own, her availability has been severely cut down. Not a huge problem, but this just puts the pressure on me. Not a huge problem, since it's helping me to sort all this stuff out a little better.

So I've officially scheduled the first two shoots to address this. Mark your calendars folks:

Friday, July 1st
Time: Preferably early, but unconfirmed.
Place: Ext - Bank, Int - Coffee shop. (Ideally, the TD across from Oakville place, and the Tim's in the area.)
Cast: Doug & Lauren.
Summary: The flashbacks concerning Elaine.

Saturday, July 2nd
Time: 7:00 PM
Place: The terminus (the corner of Kerr & Rebecca, I think.)
Cast: Kyle, Ryan, Frances, Jon
Summary: From Billy & Louie's meeting with Mikey to Billy & Mark's conversation.

If this is a conflict for anyone, let me know.

Minor detail

Hey cast. Just thought I'd throw this out there: does anybody have anything to say on the matter of crediting? SAG aside (since none of you are members, of this I'm sure,) if anybody has anything to say on the subject of their credit, I'd be all ears. Speak now and whatnot. Otherwise, I'm going to go with what I have written on the below post.

So today, I finally completed the last little piece of casting. Officially, the cast list looks like this:

*- I've spoken on at least one occasion with Alyssa on taking this part. She seemed itnerested and even stole Ryan's copy of the script, but I have yet to get a definite answer.

**- Opposite of that, Neabel took the role on Kyle's request and has yet to see the script, since I've been unable to get her e-mail or whatnot. If anyone could pass this URL on to her, that'd be appreciated, jsut so she knows that a script does exist.

We've also got some tenative scheduling news, as a certain cast member has told me she'll be unavailable for a good chuck of the summer, thus bringing her shooting time earlier than others. That person is Lauren Wing and therefore the schedule l;ooks like this:

July 4-9:
pg 10: ext - Bank, Day
pg 11: int - Coffee shop, day
pg 17-18: int - Perry's building, day
pg 53-54: ext - Mark's parents' house, day

Doug, I never spoke to you about this, but I just reckoned it was implied that we'd be shooting at your building the Perry Robbin "at home" scenes. If this is a problem, let me know.

Doug & Lauren (the two of you who are in all those scenes,) let me know when during that week you are available/unavailable.

Hey kids.

Scott A. Williams, aka Scotto Williams, aka Scott Williams XXII, aka Miguel Sanchez here, with a little notice of welcoming to the official Half-Past Eight PM board. Feel free to comment (if by now I've even shown it to you.) Here I'll be logging the production schedule, how things are going, etc, etc.

I don't much care for the current layout and design, qill possibly modify.

The Story So Far:

Most of the cast is set. Doug, Ryan and Kyle are in. Jon Tyrrell is also in. Two actresses, Anisah Hassan and Lauren Wing have accepted minor roles without me showing them the script (soon to be rectified.) Melissa Neabel has similarly agreed to the role of Carol, script unseen, but I haven't got her e-mail address. (Note: should get that.) Alyssa asked for a cameo and I offered her the part of Beth, which she seems to have accepted, but is unsure of (she has Ryan's copy of the script.) The role of Billy Vercotti is as yet uncast.

Aw, fuck.

When I approached Kerri Waite, she told me she really didn't think she had enough time, and I respect that, and have obviously decided to move on. The problem is, I've already used up most of the resources I have for people who'd do this picture. I have absolutely no clue as to who I can bring in to play the rather subversive role of post-op transgendered mafia hitwoman. It's a daunting task that requires a certain type of actress.

I need to get a Billy soon, before I can actually get the wheels turning on this thing.

Most of the locations are scouted. The equipment is properly allocated. My camera is indisposed for most of July, so Kyle, God bless him, is loaning me his (it's only fair, since i'll be using his computer for editing anyway... Kyle is the King. His Halloween costume was accurate.)

The script is in a form that I consider complete. I've changed it since handing it out, but not in any terrible way.

The task of filmmaking is an incredibly daunting one and I'd like to thank all the chums who've signed on. I have no idea why you'd want to, but you've proven yourself great friends for doing it. It's going to be a really hard two months or so and I'm scared witless.
